Annual flowers provide the most flower power of all plants, and are the stars of dramatic landscapes. Annuals are planted every year and provide beautiful and vibrant color from spring until frost. From shade-loving to sun-loving annuals, annuals will provide that dramatic and colorful wow factor!

Annuals Calendar

Weather has a huge impact on the timing of our flower crops. These are general arrival times.

March

Annuals such as Pansies and Violas provide early spring color and can withstand colder temperatures, including a frost.

Mid-April

After the last frost, usually around April 15th, all other annuals are ready to go. 

April through May

Peak selection time! Hanging baskets, large 2 and 3-gallon geraniums, and many others are stunning!

August through fall

Mums, pansies and ornamental kale provide great fall color.

  • Ageratum – Aguilera Violet Ageratum

    This Ageratum produces bright colorful violet summer flowers with great heat and drought tolerance. A Butterfly and pollinator magnet. Grows 8-12″ tall and 12-14″ wide. Full to part sun.

  • Ageratum – Aloha Blue

    Compact plants with medium green foliage and fluffy blue flowers, produced all summer long. Great choice for edging, landscapes and containers. Full to part sun.

  • Alternanthera (Joseph’s Coat) – Little Ruby Alternanthera

    Striking, fantastic foliage in shades of burgundy and purple with ruby undersides. This heat lover grabs the spot light in the garden all summer long. This tough little plant is easy-to-grow and maintain as it is heat and humidity tolerant. Grows 15-18″ tall and 24-30″ wide. Full to part sun.

  • Alyssum – Alyssum

    Low growing annual producing fragrant, showy flowers all summer. Great as a spiller in containers or as a groundcover. Grows to 6″ tall and spreads. Full to part sun.

  • Alyssum (Lobularia) – Snow Princess Lobularia hybrid

    A breakthrough in plant breeding, Snow Princess is not your normal Allysum. This spectacular variety is covered in loads of small, white flowers creating large snowballs of blooms. A vigorous grower, only 4-5″ tall but spreads all summer. Full to part sun

  • Alyssum (Lobularia) – Violet Knight Lobularia hybrid

    A very heat and cold tolerant annual flower, loaded with small, dainty, fragrant violet flowers from spring and into late fall. Great for planter combos as the spiller. Compact plants grow to 8″ tall with a trailing habit. Full to part sun

  • Alyssum (Lobularia) – White Knight Lobularia hybrid

    White Knight is a more compact and less vigorous version of Snow Princess. Use the Knight for smaller containers, and watch a beautiful pillow of clear white flowers cascade over the edges of the pot. Grows 4-8″ tall and spreads. Full to part sun.

  • Angelonia – Angelface Upright Varieties Angelonia

    Angelface Angelonia are more vigorous than the Archangel varieties. These heat lovers are suited for larger planters, used in combos or as a stand alone. Also known as Summer Snapdragons. They grow to 18-30″ tall. Full to part sun.

  • Angelonia – AngelFlare Black Angelonia

    This unusual Angelonia features black to near-black flower spikes on compact, upright plants with dark green foliage. A great thriller for combo containers. Loves the heat and humidity. Grows to 12″ tall. Full to part sun.

  • Angelonia – Angelmist Spreading Angelonia

    A wonderful heat loving annual flower with loads of colorful spikes from spring untl frost. Cascading, trailing habit, great for combos or as a groundcover. Grows to around 10″ tall and spreads to 20″ wide. Full to part sun.

  • Angelonia – Archangel Upright Angelonia hybrids

    A wonderful heat loving annual flower with loads of colorful spikes from spring to frost. Great for combo planters. Thrives in extreme heat, humidity and drought. Grows to around 14″ tall. Full to part sun.

  • Annual Flower Combos – Assorted Shade

    These combos are perfect for instant color and variety when added to your favorite decorative pot. Can also be planted in the ground for added color. Full to part shade.

  • Bacopa – Assorted Varieties Sutera

    All varieties have a low, trailing habit and flower from spring until frost. If Bacopa dry out one time, they will stop blooming for a couple of weeks. Great for combinations. Full to part sun..

  • Banana – Basjoo Hardy Musa

    The hardiest of Banana Trees, Basjoo has large leaves, giving it an exotic, tropical look. Can ultimately grow to 18 ft. tall. Cut back to 1-2 ft. tall and protect with heavy mulching in winter. Full sun.

  • Banana – Ever Red Hardy Musa sikkimensis

    Ever Red is a very decorative Banana plant, producing huge, breathtaking, striped green and maroon-red leaves. Reportedly hardy to zone 5, which makes it a perennial in our area with winter mulching. Very rarely produces bananas. Can eventually grow to 10-13 ft. tall. Full to part sun.

  • Begonia – Assorted Begonia Hybrid

    Very versitle annuals, with colorful flowers all summer long in sun or shade. Bada Boom varieties are bronze-leafed and Bada Bing are green-leafed. Grow to 8-10″ tall and wide. Sun or shade.

  • Begonia – Baby Wing Begonia

    Baby Wing Begonias produce blooms from spring until frost, over foliage that looks like small Dragon Wing leaves. Extremely heat tolerant. Grows in an upright mound, reaching 12-15″ tall and wide. Part sun.

  • Begonia – Big Begonia

    A cross between Dragon Wing and sempirvirens fibrous begonias. These varieties are well branched, have an arching, upright habit reaching well over 28″ tall and wide. An absolute knockout, with 2-3″ flowers held above the leaves. Full sun to part shade.

  • Begonia – Canary Wings Begonia hybrid

    Canary Wings Begonia produces yellow to gold foliage and bright red flowers, blooming all summer long. The foliage will burn with too much sun, so an east or north planting loccation is best. Mound to 18-20″ tall annd wide. Full to part shade.

  • Begonia – Dragon Wing Begonia x hybrida

    Dragon Wings are excellent flowering annuals for sun or shade. Flowers begin in spring and continue until frost. Great for combinations or by themselves. Will grow to 18” tall and wide. Sun or shade.

  • Begonia – Gryphon Begonia hybrid

    An outstanding foliage Begonia, with showy, serrated green foliage with burgandy undertones. Great for shade combos. Grows to 12-18″ tall and wide. Full to part shade.

  • Begonia – Hula Spreading Begonia

    Hula Begonias are available in red, blush and bicolor red/white flowers, and grow in a unique, spreading habit. They grow to 6-10″ tall and spread 2 ft. or more. Grow in sun or shade.

  • Begonia – Nonstop Begonia

    These brightly colored Nonstop Begonias are the perfect addition to containers or hanging baskets, where they will cascade over the sides, blooming from spring until frost. Grows 12-16″ tall and 16-20″ wide. Full to part shade.

  • Begonia – Surefire Cascade Begonia

    Excellent Begonia variety with a cascading/trailing habit, great heat tolerance, disease resistance and color throughout the season. Performs beautifully in sun or shade.

  • Bidens – Assorted Bidens ferulifolia

    Small but very showy, sunflower-like, flowers produced from spring until frost. Flowers attract pollinators like butterflies and bees. Usually grow to around a foot tall and a little wider. Full to part sun.

    Campfire Bidens feature small but very showy, sunflower-like, flowers produced from spring until frost. Flowers attract pollinators like butterflies and bees. Usually grows to around 14″ tall and a little wider. Full to part sun.

  • Blue Daze – Beach Bum Blue Evolvulus glomeratis

    An excellent heat loving annual flower, producing rounded, 1 inch diameter, purple-blue flowers in summer. Can take as much sun and heat as you can throw its way. Grows to 12″ tall and a little wideer. Full to part sun.

  • Bridal Veil – Tradescantia

    An excellent filler plant, with a spreading, trailing habit. Dark green foliage and small, white summer flowers. Grows to about 6″ tall and spreads. Sun of shade.

  • Bush Daisy – Tropical

    Also known as African Bush Daisy, this plant produces yellow daisy-like blooms all summer long. Plant in a sunny location, with at least six hours of suhlight. Bring indoors for the winter, as Bush Daisies are not winter hardy in our area.

  • Calendula – Bon Bon Mix

    A compact grower, this variety will provide beautiful 2-3″ fully double flowers in bright shades of solid yellow or orange, or a mix of bright and soft yellows, orange, and apricot flowers. Grows to 12″ tall. Full to part sun.

  • Cannas – Assorted Varieties

    Excellent landscape and large patio container plants. They add height, texture and color to the landscape. Bulbs must be dug up before the ground freezes if they’re to be saved. Knock dirt away from the bulbs and keep them in a cool, dry location. Height varies by variety. Full to part sun.

  • Celosia – Assorted Celosia

    Celosia produce showy summer flowers and can handle the intense summer heat and humidity. Green to red to burgandy foliage adds color until feathery flower plumes emerge. Blooms nonstop through the summer heat. Full to part sun.

  • Chinese Lantern – Tropical

    A tropical plant, known for its colorful and unique seed capsules. These seed capsules resemble tiny Chinese lanterns, hanging from the plants outer branches. The seed capsules appear repeatedly throughout the summer. Full to part sun.

  • Chrysocephalum – Flambe Yellow Chrysocephalum

    An excellent accent annual for container or landscape combinations. Small sprays of tiny spherical, golden-yellow button flower heads appear in clusters all summer. Silver, felted foliage. Low growing, spreading to 24″ or more. Full to part sun.

  • Coleus – Assorted Coleus

    Very nice compact Coleus varieties, great for combo planters or stand alone. All varieties do very well in shade. Coral sunrise, Golden, Sunset and Velvet can also tolerate high light/full sun locations. Grow to 12-14″ tall and wide.

  • Coleus – Kong Series Solenostemon

    A great new collection of Coleus, known for their unique, huge leaves in a multitude of vibrant colors. Even with the huge leaves, the plant itself stays compact and grows to mounded 18-22”’ tall and wide. Shows more intense color in full shade.

  • Coleus – Spreading Solenostemon

    Assorted spreading Coleus, great for shady combo pots or in the ground. Grow to around 10-12″ tall and twice as wide. Full to part shade.

  • Coleus – Sun or Shade Solenostemon

    Assorted varieties of Coleus, with colorful variegated foliage, tolerant of sun or shade. Coloration of foliage will vary with the amount of sunlight. Great for combinations, or by themselves. Sun or shade.

  • Cosmos – Chocamocha

    Highly sought after, Chocamocha is a tuberous annual boasting delightfully chocolate-scented, velvety deep crimson-bronze flowers, up to 1.5″ across. Blooming from midsummer to fall. Grows up to 18″ tall and 12″ wide. Full to part sun.

  • Cosmos – Sonata Mix Cosmo

    An easy to grow, free-flowering annual, producing loads of mixed color, golden-eyed, daisy-like blooms all summer long. Grow to 24″ tall and 12-14″ wide. Also a good cut flower. Full to part sun.

  • Craspedia – Golf Beauty Craspedia

    An awesome flowering annual that performs extremely well in the summer heat. Golf Beauty produces luminous, yellow golf-ball shaped flowers, held high above the plant’s foliage. Grows 24-30″ tall. Full to part sun.

  • Creeping Charlie – Varigated Glechoma

    This excellent plant produces scalloped, heart shaped, variegated leaves that are marbled with white on trailing stems. In the late spring small lavender blooms area. Grows 3-6″ tall and 12-18″ wide. Sun or Shade.

  • Crossandra – Crossandra

    Also known as Firecracker Flower, use this plant in beds, borders and containers. Also works well as a house plant. Blooms the entire summer. Grows 16-20″ tall and wide. Part shade.

  • Croton – Tropical

    Crotons have some of the boldest and brightest foliage around. These upright growing plants like a sunny location with at least six hours of sunlight. Bring indoors for the winter, as Crotons are not winter hardy in our area.

  • Cuphea – Cherrybells Cuphea

    Also known as Cigar Plant. An absolute Hummingbird magnet, Cherrybells produces loads of small, cigar shaped, red flowers all summer long. Grows in a mounding habit, reaching 10-12″ tall and 14-20″ wide. Full to part sun.

  • Cuphea – Floriglory Cuphea ignea

    Floriglory Cuphea, sometimes known as Mexican Heather, have an excellent compact, mounding habit and great heat tolerance. Flowers appear all summer long on compact 10-12″ plants. Full to part sun.

  • Cuphea – Sugarbells Cuphea

    Also known as Cigar Plant. An absolute Hummingbird magnet, Sugarbells produces loads of small, cigar shaped, white flowers all summer long. Grows in a mounding habit, reaching 10-12″ tall and 14-20″ wide. Full to part sun.

  • Cuphea – Totally Tempted Cuphea

    A compact, well branched beauty, with slender, silvery-pointed leaves and a profusion of lavender tubular flowers. A mounded, compact habit. Grows to 12″ tall. Full sun.

  • Cuphea – Vermillionaire Cuphea hybrid

    An excellent, well branched, mounding Cigar Plant with deep orange to red, tubular flowers from spring through frost. Very heat and drought tolerant and a hummingbird magnet. Grows to 18-28″ tall and wide. Full to part sun.

  • Cyperus Umbrella Papyrus – King Tut Cyperus

    An unusual and large grass-type plant will evoke images of the pyramids and the sphinx. Use in large container combos or in the landscape. Can tolerate wet conditions, so also can be used in water gardens. Grows to 4-5 ft. tall and wide. Full to part sun.

  • Cyperus Umbrella Papyrus – Prince Tut Cyperus

    An excellent Umbrella Plant, with a maximum size suited for small to medium size containers. Can tolerate wet conditions, so it’s useful as a water garden plant. Grows larger than Baby Tut, reaching 18-30″ tall and not quite as wide. Full to part sun.

  • Daisies – Gerber Gerbera

    Assorted varieites with large, daisy flowers from spring until frost. Great for combination planters. Full to part sun.

  • Dianthus – Assorted Dianthus

    Compact Dianthus varieties, producing loads of lacy-edged blooms in vibrant colors, beginning early in spring. Grow to 10-12″ tall and wide. Full to part sun.

  • Dianthus – Jolt Dianthus hybrid

    Jolt Dianthus produce ultra vivid bouquets of flowers, and bloom all summer long. A larger Dianthus, growing up to 20″ tall and wide. Full to part sun.

  • Dichondra – Silver Falls Dichondra

    A silver stemmed and silver leafed foliage plant, with very small rounded leaves. True cascading habit, like a water fall. Grows to only 1-2″ tall and trails 3-4 feet long or more. Can also be grown as a groundcover, reaching only 2” tall. Full to part sun.

  • Didelta – Silver Strand Didelta

    Silver Strand features silver, velvet smooth, succulent looking foliage on an upright, mounded plant. Grows faster than succulents, so it combines well with other plants in combos. Grows to around 12″ tall. Full to part sun.

  • Dipladenia – Tropical

    Tropical. This colorful tropical bush is similar to a Mandevilla vine but generally does not climb. Most varieties remains in a bush form. Loves the heat and sun, and will bloom all summer long. Can grow to 2-3 ft. tall and wide. Full to part sun.

  • Dorotheanthus – Golden Cascade Dorotheanthus

    An excellent drought-tolerant succulent plant, featuring vibrant, golden-chartreuse foliage. This trailing plant produces small red flowers in spring, summer and fall. A colorful, low maintenance spiller for combos and containers growing to 4-8″ tall and 18-24″ wide. Full to part sun.

  • Duranta Tree – Tropical

    This beautiful tropical tree flowers all summer long, making it a great feature plant in a large container in the deck or patio. Will not survive our winters outside. Full to part sun.

  • Elephant Ears – Black Stem Colocasia

    Black Stem peoduces large, heart-shaped, blue green leaves with deep purple-black, glossy, stems. Grows to around 3-6 ft. tall. Tolerates sun, but protect from the exteme hot afternoon sun.

  • Elephant Ears – Boa Alocasia

    Boa in known for its stiking, upright , serrated green leaves. A great focal plant in a combo container. Let the soil dry somewhat between watering. Grows to around 4-5 ft. tall. Tolerates sun, but protect from the exteme hot afternoon sun.

  • Elephant Ears – Colldora Alocasia

    Colldora, also known as Calidora, is a large Elephant Ear, producing huge, vibrant green, heart-shaped leaves that can reach up to 3 ft. feet in length. Let the soil dry somewhat between waterings. Grows in an upright habit to 6-8 ft. tall. Tolerates sun, but protect from the extreme hot afternoon sun.

  • Elephant Ears – Golden Bone Alocasia

    Golden Bone features dark green, leathery leaves with a bright golden midrib, with some yellow mottling on mature leaves. The undersides of the leaves are burgandy in color. Likes good drainage after watering. Can grow to 3-5 ft. and taller. Part sun, protected from the hot afternoon sun.

  • Elephant Ears – Mojito Colocasia esculenta

    An unusual variegated Elephant Ear, dark and light green foliage mixed with burgandy coloration. Grows to 4-6′ tall. Sun to part sun, but best to protect from the hot afternoon sun.

  • Elephant Ears – Sumo Alocasia

    Sumo produces huge, deep purple-green leaves, 3-4 ft. long and 2.5 ft. wide at maturity. A vigorous grower, reaching 6 ft. or more. Part shade, protected from the hot afternoon sun.

  • Elephant Ears – Tea Cup Colocasia

    Tea Cup is an unusual plant, producing cup shaped leaves that will actually hold water. Large, showy leaves have contrasting purple veins. Grows to aroudn 4-6 ft. tall. Tolerates sun, but protect from the extreme afternoon sun.

  • Eucalyptus – Baby Blue Eucalyptus

    Baby Blue has gorgeous discs of aromatic, silvery-blue foliage perfect for mixed containers. Eucalyptus oil works to fight cold and flu by dropping it into your diffuser. Grows to 12″ tall and 3-4 ft. wide. Full to part sun.

  • Euphorbia – Diamond Frost Euphorbia hvbrid

    A fine textured, airy annual flower, featuring small, wispy white flowers all season. Great for combos or as a stand alone.The U.K.’s 2005 Plant of the Year. Full to part sun, but can tolerate shady conditions.

  • Euphorbia – Diamond Snow Euphorbia hybrid

    Diamond Snow is a double flowering Euphorbia, producing a more compact habit than Diamond Frost. White flowers are featured from spring through frost. Excellent heat and drought tolerance. Full to part sun, but can tolerate shady conditions.

  • Euphorbia – Euphoric White Euphorbia

    Small white flowers are produced en masse making this euphorbia ideal for mixed combinations. This variety has a strong vigor and fills fast making it easy to match with other annuals. Loves the heat and thrives all summer long. Grows 14-20″ tall and wide. Full to part sun.

  • Fern – Asparagus

    A great foliage plant, with fine, needle-like foliage. Great addition for combination planters and baskets. Part to full sun.

  • Fern – Foxtail

    Foxtail Fern is actually not a Fern, but a member of the Asparagus family. With its needle-like foliage and plush appearance, it makes for an excellent container plant for the deck or patio. Tolerates morning sun but protect it from the hot afternoon sun. Move indoors in winter, as it is not winter hardy.

  • Fern – Kimberly Queen

    An upright growing Fern, producing large, gracefully arching sword-shaped fronds. Can grow up to 3-4 ft. tall. Sun or shade.

  • Firebush/Hummingbird Bush – Tropical

    A fast growing tropical bush, producing loads of vibrant, tubular orange flowers all summer long. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Grows to 4 ft. or more in one season. Full to part sun.

  • Flowering Maple – Lucky Lantern Tangerine Abutilon

    Lucky Lantern is a compact, dwarf, bushy annual plant, featuring large, pendent, soft tangerine, bell-shaped flowers in summer. The showy flowers contrast nicely with the deep green, maple-like leaves. Grows to around 12″ tall with a mounded habit. Full to part sun.

  • Gardenia Tree – Tropical

    Gardenia perfume transports you to the tropics! Double waxy white flowers look exotic but are easy to grow in indirect sun and moist soil. Must bring inside for winter protection.

  • Geranium – Big EEZE Geranium hybrid

    An All-America Selections Winner, Big EEZE is an interspecific, hybrid Geranium that produces enormous, semi-double blooms all summer long. It has exceptional heat tolerance and great garden performance. Grows quickly to around 18″ tall and wide. Full to part sun.

    Calliope Zonal Geraniums have become the #1 selling Geranium in the country, due to great garden performance. They produce large, vibrant flowers all summer. Extremely heat and drought resistant. Vigorous growers, reaching 14-16″ tall and 20-24″ wide, with a mounding habit. Full to part sun.

  • Geranium – Ivy

  • Grass – Fiber Optic Scirpus cernus

    A wonderful, bright green, mounding grass-like plant, with small round flowers on the end of each stem in summer. Great for combination planters, and grows to only 12” tall. Not winter hardy in our area. Likes moist conditions. Full to part sun.

  • Grass – Fireworks Fountain Pennisetum setaceum

    A striking new version of the popular Purple Fountain Grass, Fireworks has variegated foliage, with burgandy midveins and hot pink margins. Not Winter Hardy. Grows to 2-3 ft. tall and wide. Full to part sun.

  • Grass – Lemon Cymbopogan

    A clump forming, annual grass with light green foliage and a strong lemon scent. Good for tea. Grows to 3′ tall in one season. Full to part sun.

  • Grass – Twisted Arrows Juncus Juncus

    A mix of twisted and straight blue-green, grass like foliage makes for a high impact addition to container combos. Perennial. Grows to around 36″ tall and 12-18″ wide. Full to part sun.

  • Hanging Basket – Boston Fern

    Known for its dense, bright green, feathery fronds, Boston Fern makes a great house plant or outdoor plant during the summer months. Does best with indirect sunlight, protected from the hot afternoon sun. Can grow up to 3 ft. or more in diameter.

  • Heliotrope – Marine Heliotropium arborescens

    This heliotrope has a nice compact form with broadly oval to lance-shaped , wrinkled leaves tinged with purple. In summer, it bears a profusion of fragrant deep violet-blue flowerheads up to 6″ across. Grows 6-12″ tall and 1-3′ wide. Full to part sun.

  • Hens & Chicks – Assorted Chick Charms Sempervivum

    Some of the most colorful Hens & Chicks on the market. Golden-yellow foliage, green and red bicolor foliage and others make it a year round focal point. Very heat and drought tolerant. Be careful not to over water. Full to part sun.

  • Hibiscus – Tropical

    Attracts hummingbirds! The tropical (annual) hibiscus belongs to the Malvaceae or mallow family. It comes in Tree Form or Shrub Form. This plant loves the hot sun and will flower all summer long.

  • Hypoestes – Splash Select Hypoestes

    Colorful annuals, featuring small rounded leaves with large uniform spots or splashes. Nice foliage additions to small and medium containers. Grows to 4-6″ tall and spreads to around 14″ wide. Part shade.

  • Impatiens – Assorted Colors Impatiens walleriana
